History

Leaders of the Japanese Association were responsible for the purchase of a portion of the Rose City Cemetery in NE Portland for the community. That organization became the Nikkei Jin Kai after World War II. When special needs arose, the Japanese Ancestral Society was the community leader, making decisions and assuming responsibility for the cemetery. After many years, the ownership of the cemetery came into question, and in 2005, the Japanese Ancestral Society became the title holder. Today, the Japanese Ancestral Society administers an endowment to ensure that the cemetery is maintained and kept safe for families who come to honor their forebears.
